Independence Day in coronavirus sign. Grey, dark and wet days of November is the time of Latvia's Independence Day which is exactly today, November 18. This time of year is usually brightened up by light festival "Staro Riga"but coronavirus has stopped it too. Also army parade and fireworks is cancelled this time. Latvia celebrates it's 102th birthday and enters it's 103th year in cautious silence and calmness, dictated by coronavirus.

Āraišu street - the worst street in Riga. This seems to be the worst street (in terms of condition) in whole Riga city... Unpaved road with so huge holes that the rain creates a mini ponds here - the cars drives very cautiously, unsure if they will be able to get through there. Even in faraway rural regions in Latvia, it won't be easy to find so bad road - but the trick is that this one is located in one of the most fancy and nicest areas in Riga, Teika district, just a few km from centre. As you, see a modern apartment building is here, further on this street also a music studio "Sound Division Studios". How this is explainable? Don't ask me, I don't know.

Riga Sports Arena. The sports arena was built in 1965 and back then was one of the most modern sports venues in Riga. It's located in Maskavas forstate suburb, close to Krasta street area. Sports activities still goes on there, although the building needs renovation.

Anniņmuižas parks lights trail. One of two lights paths made in this Christmas season in Riga's suburbs - this one in Imanta area, Anninmuizas parks. The light installations here is accompanied by police signal lights and repetition that people must keep 2 metres distance and wear face masks.

Agenskalns market pavillion. One of best recent accomplishments in Riga is the reconstruction of Āgenskalns market pavillion. From outdated soviet style market is has now turned into modern shopping, dining and relaxation place where one can buy quality food from Latvian farmers. The building itself is old enough (from 1893) and bears the atmosphere of Industrial revolution times. To me, all those steel structures resembles Paris, Vienna and other beautiful cities which developed fast at the second half of 19th Century. Together it all makes Agenskalna market as a very interesting tourist destination for those who seeks some interesting unseen places in Riga.

Imanta - Daugavgrīva bicycle road (veloceliņš). The construction of new bicycle road from Imanta to Daugavgrīva districts has been restarted in Western area of Riga. Here the already largely finished part in Bolderāja district is visible. The length of the whole route will be more than 12 kilometres, and the road will connect to the Riga-Jurmala bicycle road. So, the network of cycling infrastructure in Riga is developing, although the speed of development is much slower than the growth of demand. Riga have the potential to become a real cycling city, as the topography is flat, the distances not so long and also the density of population not too large. Probably there will come a day when Riga won't be a car-centred city anymore.

Lavazza coffee automat on Maskavas street. "Coffee is a life fuel" - noticed such a slogan in advertisements in London metro when visited the city month ago. However in London I didn't saw such coffee automats which have appeared in many places in Latvia during last years - mostly in the centres of small villages or next to car wash stations, but also in Riga. Most of them belongs to Lavazza brand. This one is located on Maskavas street, historical suburb of Maskavas forštate.

New tunnel below Lacplesa street. Sometimes the development is just... meh. The new tunnel below Lacplesa street which connects two parts of Maskavas forštate district has earned much criticism in social media recently. Primarily from cyclists which have found very hard to use it (people really curses here when riding a bike, it's very awkward as you see in the second photo). But even overall - the tunnel just looks so ugly, unsafe and unpractical. What a waste of money.

Ezermalas iela 18.This old, charming wooden house, partly covered by green creepers, is located near Ķīšezers lake in Mežaparks district. It stays abandoned and sadly it's not meant to be renovated - it sells as an offer to build a new apartment building in this place.

Slokas iela 193. Charming local initiative to enhance urban environment. Such an improvised gardens next to soviet time commieblock buildings are rare sight in Riga but I would be happy if they were more. Btw, this is the building and exactly these are the doors where I lived in my student years (2003-2007) in Riga. Back then there wasn't such front garden.
